Easy Filipino Simmered Smelt Recipe

Serves/Makes: 3

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound smelt, dressed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 3/4 cup thick coconut milk
How to cook Easy Filipino Simmered Smelt:
  • Marinate smelt in vinegar, salt and turmeric for at least 1 hour.
  • Bring to a boil and simmer covered for 5 minutes.
  • Add coconut milk and simmer 5 minutes more.
  • Serve with steamed rice.

Smelts should be frozen at 0°F (-18°C), into airtight food containers, immediately after buying bought frozen, smelts should be eaten within 4 to 6 months for maximum freshness.
