Korean Fried Plaice with Rice and Vegetables Recipe

Serves/Makes: 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 whole plaice (flounder), about 1/2 pound each
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • Vegetable oil
  • Finely chopped dill to garnish
  •     For Soy Onion Sauce:
  • 1 onion, grated
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce (I used Kikkoman soy sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • Cayenne pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  •     For Rice and Vegetables:
  • Vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 carrot, grated on medium grater
  • 1 red bell pepper, julienned
  • 2-3 cups cooked rice
  • Salt to taste
How to cook Korean Fried Plaice with Rice and Vegetables:
  • Saute onions in vegetable oil until soft. Add carrots, bell pepper and stir fry until tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Add cooked rice to sauteed vegetables, season with salt and stir; heat up and keep warm.
  • Scored a dark skin of plaice. Cut the head and guts at once and then cut off tail and fins around the fish. (It is very convenient to do it with a kitchen scissors.)
  • Rinse the fish under running cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
  • Cut each fish into 2 pieces.
  • To prepare the soy onion sauce: mix all sauce ingredients.
  • Season the fish with salt and roll in flour. Lightly fry on both sides in vegetable oil.
  • Then rub the fish with the soy onion sauce and fry on both sides until fish flakes easily with fork.
  • Transfer the fried plaice to a dinner plate. Use the rice and vegetables as a side dish.
  • Garnish with chopped dill and serve hot.
