Mississippi Catfish Stew Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds catfish fillets
  • 3 small potatoes, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 (16-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
How to cook Mississippi Catfish Stew:
  • In a large heavy skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat, cook bacon until crisp; remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  • Cook onion in hot bacon fat until just beginning to brown.
  • Add tomato sauce, potatoes, and seasonings, simmer until potatoes are tender, about 20-25 minutes.
  • Cut the catfish fillets into bite-size pieces.
  • Add the catfish pieces to the stew, cover, and cook about 5 minutes more, until the fish is no longer translucent.
  • Remove the catfish stew from heat, sprinkle with bacon pieces, and serve at once with cornbread.
