Thai Spicy Mackerel Salad Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 5 large short-bodied mackerel
  • 10-15 broken hot chilies
  • 7 finely sliced shallots
  • 1/2 cup shredded young ginger
  • 5 finely slice lemon grass stems
  • 2 table spoons finely sliced kaffir lime leaves
  • 1 cup horapha* sweet basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons ground roasted peanuts
  • 2-3 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • Fresh vegetables: Chinese cabbage, yard-long beans, cabbage, spring onions, coriander greens
How to cook Thai Spicy Mackerel Salad:
  • Fry the mackerel golden brown and remove the meat.
  • Toss with the meat the lemon grass, ginger, shallot, chilies, kaffir lime leaf, sweet basil leaves, fish sauce, and lime juice.
  • Just before serving, sprinkle with the ground peanut, and serve with the fresh vegetables.

Notes:

The Thai name for Spicy Mackerel Salad recipe is Yam Pla Thu.
This recipe is delicious, simple, and really easy to cook.

Comments:

*Horapha, kaphrao, maenglak are varieties of sweet basil. Horapha seems to be the nearest to the sweet basil used in European tomato dishes and Italian pesto. Horapha is used here as a vegetable and for flavouring.
