
Easy Smelt Gumbo or Soup Recipe
Serves/Makes: 4 – 6
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds smelt, cleaned and cut into bite-size pieces
- 3 strips chopped bacon
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1/4 cup green pepper
- 1 quarter tomatoes
- 1 large can tomato sauce
- 1 package frozen okra, if you can find it
- 2 quarters water
- 2 cup cooked rice
How to cook Easy Smelt Gumbo or Soup:
- Brown bacon in large pot.
- Add onion, celery and green pepper. Cook until transparent.
- Add tomato sauce and tomatoes and mix. Add water.
- 15 minutes later add okra.
- Last 15 minutes add smelt.
- Serve with cooked rice.
