
English Cod Fish and Chips Recipe
Serves/Makes: 2 – 3
Ingredients:
- 1 pound (454 g) cod or halibut fillets, cut into 1 1/2-inch (4-cm) wide strips
- 1/3 cup (80 mL) breadcrumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon (1 mL) salt
- 1 egg white
- 1 tablespoon (15 mL) olive oil
How to cook English Cod Fish and Chips:
- Onto a piece of wax paper, mix together breadcrumbs, black pepper and salt.
- Into a shallow dish, slightly beat egg white.
- Dip each fish strip into egg white, letting drip excess egg white into dish.
- Well coat fish strips on both sides with breadcrumbs mixture press in breadcrumbs with your fingers.
- Into a large fry pan, heat olive oil over medium-high heat add a few fish strips.
- Cook fish strips until golden brown on both sides and easily broken-up with a fork, for approximately 5 minutes.
- Drain onto layers of paper toweling cover with al foil, to keep fish warm.
- Repeat with remaining fish fillets.
- Serve immediately along with French fries.

To cut fish, using a thin blade sharp knife, remove bones and then cut fillets sideways, into 1 1/2-inch (4-cm) wide strips.
